Hatteras or Bust

Joey, Laurie, Monk, and I got together to make one last trip of the summer. Cape Hatteras NC was our destination, and our main objective was to meet up with our friends, the Bearden/Clower families. We had our minds set on about a week of skateboarding, surfing, fishing, just trying to enjoy the last days of August. After an hour or so of tweaking the vans only head light, hoping to make the best of our poor lighting, we hit the open road. Leaving Newark in the wee hours of the morning we had a long trip ahead of us. Joey managed to stay behind the wheel, and keep us safely on course, as the rest of us nodded in and out of uncomfortable van sleep. We stopped halfway across the 20 mile long Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel for a quick piss stop, then continued on our way watching the sun rise over the bay. After navigating through Virginia Beach morning rush hour traffic i passed back out leaving Joey to drive. I woke up some time later to the vibrations of the rumble strip separating us from the oncoming traffic. Luckily i noticed we were just minutes from the Currituck skatepark. I talked joey in to making a detour for a morning bowl session. We stumbled out of the van in to the sticky morning air. It was early but we had a blast making a few runs, surfing the concrete corners like we would soon be riding the waves of Hatteras.
